With RLO it looks like a proper early morning sunrise: (was having issues when recording this so there are screen tears and it's a bit choppy, but watchable) The sequence takes place in the early morning, yet with vanilla and CoT lighting it looks more like mid-day. The intro cart sequence in particular really shows off the difference in how CoT just reduces the vanilla ambient lighting while RLO actually re-does the lighting. I've been playing lately with RLO and RLO's weather modules for outdoor lighting instead of CoT + RLO interiors. I always thought things looked kinda dull when I was running it, and then I saw a comparison video between CoT, RLO and ELFX that confirmed my suspicions

My only problem with CoT is that it just kind of lowers the brightness, rather than actually altering the light level. Though, IMO, it's far better to have pitch black and leave torches everywhere (and play in a dark room) than it is to have a dark blue ambient light that makes everything just look like a filter has been placed over daylight (which is essentially what it currently is).īut, yes, last I checked CoT had multiple files that set the ambient light anywhere from 50% to 0% of vanilla. It's one of the areas that UE4 (and hopefully other engines) are supposed to be much better at handling so perhaps we'll see Bethesda's next games implement a better solution for realistic lighting without things going all black. So instead of a candle hitting a bright colored surface and bouncing off to illuminate other surfaces you get a bright spot around the candle with a gradient of darkening in that area. They tend to try and offset the global ambient with increased luminosity and range on lightsources but the problem is current engines don't have much ability to allow the light to traverse around the space in a natural manner.

Most "lighting" mods strip out ambient light but don't replace it with anything. Inigo on the other hand was fantastic during 20 minutes I spent on both Follower mods. Vilja – kind of slow talker and I can hear sometimes voice actress is too close to mike. Is there descent Night Eye mod? Or should I go with Project Reality - Climates of Tamriel – have not tried this one yet. What to do? I’m getting tired casting magelight everywhere. Realistic Lighting Overhaul – beautiful colours on one hand / too dark for little packrat in me.

Does it have to keep copies of mods in its folder (all my mods are saved on server)? Can I delete them after I install mods and am happy with my mods selection? Searching for files left after I uninstall Skyrim was… interesting. Clean reinstall and roll new character is in order.

Didn’t have to re-download anything, I’ve unmolested copy of Skyrim on file server sitting in one of my Steam accounts. Didn’t care much – I knew it is going to happen. Same here botched my install with mods I tried. Now I've got nearly all the same mods installed and it's not crashing constantly.

I also totally whacked my Skyrim install (saves, INI, etc) and redownloaded everything.
